What is liver?

Liver is a largest solid organ in our body which is located at the upper right side part of the abdomen. An adult’s liver usually weighs approximately 3 pounds. It is separated into two parts i.e. right and left lobe. The right lobe is larger than the left lobe. It is the active organ which is responsible for many vital life functions.

Function of liver in our body:

There are many functions of the liver that are carried by its cells. The liver is almost performing 500 functions in our body with the combination of other organs. The main five primary functions of liver on our body are:

  • It helps in the production and excretion of Bile.
  • It helps in the excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones and drugs.
  • It helps in the activation of enzymes.
  • It helps in the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates.
  • It is helpful in the storage of glycogen, vitamins and minerals.
  • It helps in the synthesis of plasma proteins such as clotting factors.
  • It also helps in the detoxification and purification of blood.
