WHAT EXACTLY THIS TERM MEANS?

Life style disorder can be well defined as a disease which is directly linked with the life style of the people they are living with such as lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating habits, consumption of alcohol, smoking, drug abuse, stress and so on. Emerging of new technologies such as internet and virtual communication, lead the world to a major challenge that threatens them physically and mentally just because it’s been over used.

 

HOW LIFE STYLE DISORDER AFFECTS OUR HEALTH AND HOW WE CAN MANAGE IT BY YOGA & AYURVEDA:

Our lifestyle disorder can affect our health as well as well being. We ourselves invite many diseases just because of our lifestyle which may include overweight, diabetes, high cholesterol, blood pressure, cardiac problems, stress, and hypertension. Unfortunately instead of declination we are constantly increasing the list by adding on some dangerous diseases like cancer, mental health problems, allergies, hormonal disorders, respiratory diseases. Let’s discuss about them one by one.

  1. Obesity or overweight: A person is considered to be obese or overweight when he/she is 20 percent more than their ideal weight. It is the storage of excessive fat accumulated in the body by overeating, less physical activity, unhealthy food habits like more of refined flour, butter, processed foods, oily food and outside food. Obesity is also observed when you eat more than is required by your body and the excess is converted to fat.

For managing our weight we can take the help of yoga by doing different aasans like Bhujang aasan, Nauka aasan, Pawan mukt aasan and many more.

Also in our Ayurveda, we have so many magical herbs which can help us to deal with obesity such as Guggal, Triphala, Trikuta, Fat Heal etc.

 

  1. Hyperacidity: When we have a lifestyle disorder we are more prone to get hyperacidity problem. It is just the imbalance between the acid-secreting mechanism of the stomach and intestine. Through yoga we can cure this by doing Virbhadraasan, trikonasana, suptabaddha konasana etc.

In Ayurveda we can use gooseberry (amla), Liquorice (mulethi), Amaldoshari etc.

 

  1. Diabetes: It is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood to the cells which is then converted to energy but with diabetes wither our body is not making enough insulin or the body is not able to use it efficiently. This disease can damage your nerves, eyes, kidneys and many organs. There are many types of diabetes like Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes.

Through yoga poses like legs up the wall pose, reclining bound angle pose, bow pose etc. can help you to deal with this disease.

  1. High cholesterol: Cholesterol is a substance found in our body which is needed to build healthy cells but when its level gets high it affects your health in many ways. With high cholesterol one may have fatty deposits in blood vessels which will eventually grow and making it difficult for blood flow to the arteries. Sometimes they may also form a clot which can lead to a heart attack or stroke. It is often the result of an unhealthy lifestyle.high cholesterol treatment

Yoga can help us in fighting against high cholesterol by doing skull shining breathing technique(Kapal batti), wheel pose ( chakra asan), locust pose (shalabhasan asan) etc.

In ayurveda also various herbs are there like Guggal, Shilajeet, Cholesterol health, AZ Lipid etc.

 

  1. Blood pressure: It is the process with which the pressure of the circulation of blood on the walls of blood vessels. It is done by the working of heart which pumps blood through the circulatory system. But when there is a condition where the force of blood against the artery walls is too high, it leads to high blood pressure disease in which the person may feel headaches, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain etc.Blood pressure

  1. Cardiac problems: It is generally seen when blocked blood vessels that can lead to heart attack. In this person may feel chest pain or chest discomfort, numbness, weakness in legs and arms if those parts are narrowed, pain in neck etc.

Poses like mountain pose, standing forward bend pose, bridge pose etc are there in yoga through which we can keep this at par.

  1. Stress/ Depression/ Anxiety: It is a feeling which is affected by emotions as well as physical activities. It is just the body’s reaction to a challenge or demand. Stress in many ways is going to affect our life mentally, physically and emotionally. A feeling of unhappiness that lasts for a long time and may lead to developing our character like an unhappy soul. It may be because of bad economic situations or job issues or loneliness, lack of friends, no meaningful person to share your feelings with or any other reason. The person may feel lack of appetite or overeating habit, less concentration on the things which he is doing, isolation, maybe the person can put on weight or loss weight, continuous thoughts going on his mind, thinking more of negative things. It is an indicator of underlying disease when feelings become excessive and interfering daily living. The person suffering from this often seems to be more restless, irritated, palpitation or trembling, racing thoughts in mind or maybe excess sweating.

Yoga is very helpful in managing stress and poses like easy bend, wide legged standing forward bend, side stretch, corpse pose are very helpful in this.

Ayurvedic herbs like Shankhpushpi, Brahmi, Ashwagandha, AZ clam, True calm are there to relax our mind.

 

  1. Thyroid Issues: There is a gland in our neck which secretes three hormones which influence the metabolic rate. Because of our lifestyle disorder this gland starts functioning abnormally and results in affecting our health. In this the person may start gaining or losing weight, the metabolic rate becomes either too high or too low. A swelling in the neck is the visible clue for this. The imbalance thyroid hormones can affect nearly every organ in the body slowly and gradually.

Poses like plough pose, fish pose, bridge pose, cobra pose are few of the poses in yoga which will help to keep thyroid gland work properly.

In addition to this various ayurvedic herbs like Detoxy, Fibro heal are there to keep problem in control.

 

  1. Auto Immune Disease: This is the disease in which the person’s body immune system is attacking his/her healthy cells, reason is just our lifestyle disorder. In this the person may get problems like Rheumatic Arthritis, SLE, Hepatitis etc.

Poses like Skull shining breath exercise, downward-facing dog pose, supported shoulder stand pose, reclined cobblers etc are there in yoga which will keep your immune system in order.
